Jared Carrabis ’14 sums up his job in four words: “I make baseball content.”
And as we say in New England, he’s wicked good at it, too.
He first started a Red Sox Blog in 2006 on the now-defunct MySpace, then moved to Twitter before getting syndicated by the fan-favorite Barstool Sports. He also founded and hosted a podcast titled Section 10 with some friends—a show that shut down for a few years but they’ve since re-launched in an even more popular format.
“Once 2018 happened, the Red Sox won the World Series, and Section 10 took off. It was like we were the Beatles whenever we went to Fenway,” Carrabis reminisced.
Talk about surreal.
“It was a snap-of-the-fingers transition from taking a few pictures here and there to there would be a crowd of Red Sox fans waiting for us at the same spot outside of Fenway after every Friday night home game.”
Carrabis worked for Barstool Sports then online sports betting platform DraftKings. Nowadays, he is co-host of two different podcasts, Section 10 and Baseball is Dead, and also works with Underdog Fantasy, a fantasy sports hub.
“I think I’ve got influencer qualities,” he conceded. “Really, I’m sort of a hybrid between a media personality, content creator, and influencer, I guess.” Most recently, he partnered with Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵ baseball, narrating a powerful video when the team headed to the College World Series in June.
Carrabis was motivated to pursue an undergraduate business degree at Î÷¹ÏÊÓƵ after being rejected for a front office job at Fenway. But now, anything can happen in the influencer world.
“When I graduated, I thought my ticket to the top was writing about sports online,” he said. “So, several years from now, I imagine I will be doing things that haven’t been introduced yet to the influencer space. I have to be ready to adapt and adjust.”
